Check the coolant level in your vehicle, ensure you check it when the engine is cold.

If the coolant level seems low, add a 50/50 solution of coolant and water to maintain the necessary antifreeze capability.

The chemical reactions required to generate power in a battery slow down in cold temperatures. Your vehicle also requires more current from the battery to start the engine.

To avoid your vehicle not starting on a cold morning, we recommend that you get a battery load test to see if your battery has enough juice.

It is also essential to check the battery cables and terminals for cracks.

Winter driving can be tricky, but reduced visibility will make it worse. Ensure there is sufficient wiper fluid so you can keep your windscreen free of ice, snow and salt. Make sure you use freeze resistant wiper fluid.

Wiper blades should completely clear the windscreen with each swipe. Blades which leave streaks or miss areas should be replaced.

If you are replacing your blades you should consider choosing a heavy duty wiper blade specifically designed for winter conditions.

Tyres with worn treads can be a serious hazard in wintry conditions.

Tyres work well in light to moderate snow conditions providing they have adequate tread depth. If your tyre has less than 3/32 inches of tread it should be replaced.

Your vehicle engine needs lubrication to run. Cold weather can thicken the oil and reduce its ability to circulate through the engine.
